The Cost of Followship

Passage: Luke 9:57-62

In the middle of our traditional New Year’s resolutions, where does Jesus fit? Among the more popular resolutions about losing weight, eating better, exercising more (or at least a little), studying harder fixing relationships– is there room for “becoming a better follower of Jesus”? We may be hesitant to make such resolutions because it smells too much like self-help legalism. Or, we may be hesitant because we don’t like what we think that might entail. This morning let’s remove a couple thousand years of assumptions and hear the call of discipleship from the lips of the Master.
